It’s spooky how many free and inexpensive activities there are to enjoy with your family and friends this October. We promise this list is full of treats and absolutely no tricks!

October 1

Pick-Your-Own Pumpkins & Apples (Colts Neck) – Every weekday from 9am-4:30pm, and every weekend from 9am-5:30 pm through October 31st, join Eastmont Orchards for apple and pumpkin picking. Admission is free and you will only pay for what you pick. Eastmont Orchards encourages visitors to check their social media or call ahead before visiting, as well as bring their own bags. October 5

Fall Harvest Festival Arts & Crafts Show (Ocean Grove) will take place from 10am-4pm at Auditorium Square Park, rain or shine. This event will feature crafts, art, live music, and food. Admission is free. Additional information can be found here.

Oktoberfest (Seaside) – Island Beach State Park welcomes you to celebrate fall at Oktoberfest, taking place at Swimming Area 1 for the entire day. For a suggested donation of $8 – you can bring your family, friends, and furry friends on a leash – to enjoy food, brews (ages 21+), vendors, live music, and a pet costume parade and contest. October 6

Oktoberfest (Freehold) – Freehold Borough will be shutting down West Main Street so you and your family can enjoy a wide array of activities from 12pm-5pm. Oktoberfest will bring together the community to celebrate Bavarian culture through unique vendors, food, games and more. The Beer Garden will have tables and seating to enjoy the fare, and there will be live music on the Main Stage and in the Beer Garden throughout the day. October 7

Teen Pumpkin Painting (Howell) – The Howell Branch of the Monmouth County Library System invites your 6th-12th graders to paint a pumpkin from 7pm-8pm. While the pumpkin and materials are supplied, registration is required since there are limited spaces available. October 8

Fall Flavor of Freehold – From 5pm-8pm join in an evening of exploring what the downtown area has to offer. You’ll be equipped with an event passport to use as a guide, as you embark on your walking tour to check out the restaurants, bars, and shops. Tickets are $25 per person, and they come with signature samples of what some of these beloved Freehold Borough establishments have to offer. October 12

Fall Arts & Crafts Festival (Middletown) will take place from 10am-4pm at the Middletown Arts Center. This inaugural event will feature local artisans and crafters, food trucks, and more for the whole family to enjoy. Admission is free, with free parking for visitors across the street. Fall Food Truck Festival (Neptune City) – Head over to Memorial Park for a day of family fun at the 3rd Annual Fall Food Truck Festival. While admission is free, local food trucks will be selling refreshments, and there will be beer/wine to purchase for tasters 21+. Aside from the food and beverages, there are still plenty of free activities to enjoy – such as live music, games, a petting zoo, a light show, and more. Learn more here.

October 13

Halloween Fun Fest (Long Beach Island) will take place October 13th from 10am-2pm and October 19th from 4pm-8pm at Fantasy Island Amusement Park. There are countless family friendly activities to enjoy, including a trick or treat trail, pumpkin patch, costume contest, face painter, family photos, and more. Select rides, boardwalk games, and the arcade will be open. Tickets are $15/adult and $20/child (ages 1-17) and includes a $10 Fun Card and access to all activities. October 19

Halloween Bonfire & Doggie Costume Contest (Hazlet) will take place at Leocadia Court Park from 4pm-8pm (rain date is Sunday, October 20th). Although it is free to come enjoy the bonfire and Halloween activities with your family and friends, Hazlet encourages you (and your dog!) to wear your Halloween costume. There will be a Howl-o-ween doggie costume contest as well. You can find more information here.

Harvest Festival (Little Egg Harbor) – Get in the fall spirit at the Harvest Festival, taking place from 10am-4pm at Pinelands Regional High School. Admission is free for all ages, and you’ll want to take advantage of it with all of the fun family activities taking place throughout the day. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Howell) will be told at the Howell Branch of the Monmouth County Library System at 6pm. This one-man-show will feature the classic horror tale and a fully staged presentation sure to entertain all ages, followed by a short historical information session and light refreshments. Trunk or Treat (Wall Township) – The Annual Trunk or Treat will take place rain or shine in the Wall Municipal Complex Parking Lot from 6pm-8pm. Bring your family and friends from infants to 13 years old, to check out the decorated trunks, show off your best Halloween costume, and go trick or treating. Admission is free. Halloween Hullabaloo (Middletown) – Join Middletown for a spook-tacular night of Halloween fun at Poricy Park from 5:30pm-8pm. The Hullabaloo will feature a costume contest, trick or treating, hayrides, an inflatable corn maze, and more. Admission is free for residents, and registering prior to the event is recommended here. Halloween Event (Ocean Grove) – Join Ocean Grove in celebrating Halloween a few days early from 1pm-3pm. Head on over to Main Avenue for free trick or treating, Halloween crafts and festivities, and a photobooth. 1830s All Hallows Eve Trick-or-Treating Celebration (Wall Township) – Ever wondered how they celebrated Halloween in the 19th century? You don’t have to wonder any longer after attending this event at the Historic Village at Allaire from 11am-4pm. This event allows you to step back in time while still enjoying the Halloween activities of today, including live demonstrations, spooky storytelling, craftmaking, and a carved pumpkin contest. Jacks and Lights (Lacey) – Celebrate the spirit of the season from 6pm-9pm at Argos Farm, when you walk through a trail of hundreds of lit jack o’ lanterns carved into amazing designs. September 11

Bell Works Fresh Farmers & Makers Market (Holmdel) will feature fresh produce and unique creations. Happening every Wednesday of September from 11am-4pm, this is a great place to explore handcrafted goods, and support the local community. Learn more here.

September 13

Bonfires on the Beach (Asbury Park) will take place from 7pm-10pm every Friday night during September, weather permitting. The 9/13 bonfire will be at First Avenue Beach. Check the schedule online for other dates and locations through the end of September.

Italian Festival (Englishtown) join the Italian American Association of Monmouth County at their Italian Festival from 6pm-10pm. Taking place all weekend long through September 15th, this festival features rides for the whole family to enjoy, games, food, live entertainment, and more. September 14

A Tribute to All Things Broadway (Lincroft) takes place from 2pm-3:30 pm & 7pm-8:30pm. Bring the family for a day of appreciating Broadway without having to leave New Jersey! Featuring songs, scenes, and dances performed by local talent from hit Broadway musicals, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Wind & Sea Festival (Port Monmouth) will take place from 11am-5pm at Bayshore Waterfront Park, weather and conditions permitting. Climb Time (Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park in Long Branch) – If you are looking for an adventurous family-friendly activity, head over to Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park for climb time. Open to ages 8+ (those under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult) and 42” or taller, you can try the 25’ portable climbing wall for free. Check it out on the Monmouth County calendar.

September 21

Allaire State Park Fall Harvest Festival (Wall) – If you are looking for a chance to get in the fall spirit, look no further than the Fall Harvest Festival, taking place from 11am-4pm both Saturday and Sunday, 9/22 at the Allaire Historic Village. Stop by to enjoy live music, live demonstrations, craft vendors, an apple pie baking contest, apple cider pressing, and more. Tickets are $10/adult and $5/child (ages 4-12, 3 and under are free). Howell Day & Green Fair – Join the Township of Howell from 3pm-8pm at Soldier Memorial Park for this fun for the whole family event. Kids Day America (Wall Township) is from 10am-2pm in the Court Yard at the Wall Municipal Building. This is the 21st annual event dedicated to children’s health, safety, prevention, and environmental awareness. It’s time for some fun in the sun! Enjoy the weather and the sights and sounds the summer season brings. Check out these local activities happening this month in a town near you, as well as all the great Independence Day fireworks displays – there are lots available to attend all month long!

July 2:

Howell Township Independence Day Fireworks and Summer Concert Series will begin at 5pm and end at 9:30pm. There will be a free concert, cornhole tournament, rides and activities for kids, food vendors and more, followed by fireworks at dusk. The Monmouth County Fair (Freehold) begins at the East Freehold Showgrounds at 1500 Kozloski Road from 4pm-11pm. The fair will last until Sunday, July 28th at 6pm. Summer is here and it’s prime time for outdoor activities at the Jersey Shore! Be sure to check out these upcoming dates for some free or inexpensive events happening nearby this month.

June 6:

Broadwalk Fresh (Red Bank) kicks off at 5pm on Broad Street in Downtown Red Bank for the summer season until 9pm (every Thursday night until the end of September). This event features a vibrant pedestrian only marketplace with gourmet treats, artisan goods, live entertainment and activities for kids too. Find out more and see other upcoming dates here.

Sunset Canoe Paddle begins with session #1 at 6:30pm at Marlu Lake (Lincroft). Experience adventure and look and listen for wildlife as you paddle under the stars on Thursdays over a 3 week period. Pre-registration and a $60 per person fee is required. The fee includes 3 sunset canoe sessions at different locations in Monmouth County. 6/13 will be at Deal Lake and 6/20 in Middletown. June 7: Asburyfest begins on Friday night at 5pm and ends on Sunday 6/9 at 6pm at 101 5th Avenue, across from Convention Hall in Asbury Park. Aberdeen Food Truck & Music Festival begins at 11am and runs through 7pm at Veterans Memorial Park at Ocean Blvd. and Lakeshore Drive in Keyport. June 9: Pour into Summer Wine Festival (Lakewood) takes place from noon to 5pm at Shoretown Ballpark, 2 Stadium Way. There will be over 100 wines to sample and purchase from the top vineyards across New Jersey for ages 21+, alongside food trucks, live bands, vendors and artisan crafters. Bring a lawn chair or blanket if you want to stay the day. Advance ticket purchase online is $20 per person for ages 21 and up, and $25 each at the gate. June 14: Summer Social at Historic Longstreet Farm (Holmdel) from 6:30pm-8pm. What could be better than starting summer with freshly made ice cream and traditional yard games? Learn about ice cream’s history and significance as you help churn a fresh batch to enjoy. After enjoying this summer treat, have fun engaging in some popular yard games and activities.
